FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Are you looking to get it to ferment faster? I don't know if it will ferment faster or not with yeast, but it only takes 3 days to get the feed fermenting nicely, from what I found (using nothing but feed and water). After that, I just keep some of the backslop to keep the fermenting process going when I add new feed. It's really worth trying out! I find that my chickens look a lot better. Their feathering looks better, they seem happier/satisfied, and they are nice and juicy. Before, it seemed like they weren't getting enough food, or they weren't as interested in it.

No, I'm just curious. I tried making my own yeast for sourdough bread last year and was surprised at even the fact that it worked. I had just never thought about the fact that yeast are naturally occurring in the atmosphere and in the feed and/or grains themselves until I "grew" my own.
I have the organic ACV and I can use a little Greek yogurt for a starter.

Could one use a packet of bread yeast to start the fermenting process? Just curious.....I'm finding this very interesting!

I think some folks did that awhile back and didn't like the results, so not sure. Maybe in a place that didn't have many wild yeast cultures in the air that would work better? From what I understand the wild yeast cultures are more hardy and will come into the mix and take over the fermenting process anyway, so the bread yeast would be wasted.

There are quite a few who ferment their dog's food and says it took care of stomach issues, coat issues, etc. No diarrhea noted.

Update: Well, I normally feed my dogs (pitbull and airedale) Diamond Lamb Meal and Rice Formula for Adult Dogs. On a whim, since the ff was soooo good for my chickens and my pitbull has skin issues, I fermented 2 servings of their dog food. One for each of them. I finally gave them these first servings today and you would have thought I put down the ULTIMATE best-tasting dog food in the world. Neither of them EVER clean their bowls at one feeding, they save some up and go back later to finish it off. Well, let's just say that these bowls don't have to go in the dishwasher!!!!! THEY LOVED IT!!!! So far, about 3 hours later, no bad symptoms. Both happy as can be and out running around the property like crazy kids.

Guess I'm gonna have to do this some more!!!!

I'd be real interested on the results if you do this full time...I'm betting you will see a change in their skin and energy levels. Could you keep us informed? This should be really interesting! I'm thinking about fermenting some food for the new dog I have....they have been feeding him the cheapest dog food out there and his poop looks like baby poop. Yellow and loose diarrhea...not good. He also has very little energy. I'm going to worm him and feed him some of regular food soaked in FF water and see if I can't jump start something good in his bowels.

I will be watching this also. I feed our dog Merricks pork and sweet potatoe. I didn't know if you could ferment the meat that is supposed to be in the food. I would love to feed her ff. Bee, do you have a lot of ff water in your feed? I really don't have a lot in mine to drain. Should I? It looks like oatmeal, on the dry side.

Wow, fermented dog food, I'm interested. I have a 100 lb long haired shepherd who scratches all the time. I've tried everything. Might try to ferment his kibble--Blu Beef and Lamb formula.

This is so important to know. That kind of dog food isn't cheap. My next door neighbor has a dog that is allergic to chicken etc so the vet has her on lamb and rice. Too expensive for them. I wonder if regular dog food that is fermented would work for her? Just a thought. Hmmmmmmmmm.

When I had my double bucket system I always had some in the bottom bucket reservoir but right now I don't have any excess liquid....but I sure know how to get some. The next time I refresh my feed and pour the water in and mix it, prior to mixing in the dry feed, I'll scoop me out some liquid. I'll add more liquid to it and allow it to feed on the solubles already in the water or even add a little fresh feed to feed the scoby(it will sink to the bottom) and then just keep this fermented water on the side for mixing with dog food.

My King.

He sure is beautiful and his name suits him. GSDs are prone to skin issues, aren't they? My friend always has one or two in her pack and they always have skin issues and are constantly taking steroids for it.
