FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

When I had my double bucket system I always had some in the bottom bucket reservoir but right now I don't have any excess liquid....but I sure know how to get some. The next time I refresh my feed and pour the water in and mix it, prior to mixing in the dry feed, I'll scoop me out some liquid. I'll add more liquid to it and allow it to feed on the solubles already in the water or even add a little fresh feed to feed the scoby(it will sink to the bottom) and then just keep this fermented water on the side for mixing with dog food.

He sure is beautiful and his name suits him. GSDs are prone to skin issues, aren't they? My friend always has one or two in her pack and they always have skin issues and are constantly taking steroids for it.

So you can ferment dog food, even with meat in it? Or are you saying you just pour the liquid over the dog food?

30-50% and that was from their first day here.

Okay thank you! Your not worried that that is too much calcium? Or does it not matter because they.will be processed early in their life? I have layers 2 young pullets and a cockeral and im trying to figure out what to feed them so the hens get their calcium and the young ones get their protein.
Right now I put out a dish of grower and a dish of layer and the grower must taste better because the hens eat it up before the babies get to it. So ive been locking the babies.in the coop for 15 minutes with their food so they can get their fill before the hens chase them away. But its a bit of a hassle..

No, I never worry about calcium for young birds. Mine go out on free range to forage at 2 wks and consume bugs and plant matter that has greater than 10 % calcium where as layer feed only has 3-4 % calcium. I'm doubting the layer feed has any detrimental effects on my chicks at that point....been using it for layer chicks and for CX for a long time now. My 6 yr old birds had 100% layer ration from day one, no chick starter at all. The CX really need the extra calcium anyway as their bones are growing quickly and they are putting on weight even more quickly.

All those different feeds are always a hassle and by now you can probably tell I don't like complicated or hassle, so I go the simplest route. All my feed is fermented in the same bucket so my adult birds have been consuming chick starter with their layer ration and my chicks have been consuming layer ration in their chick starter.

I never have illness in my flocks and my birds live long, healthy, productive lives....I don't really give much credence to all the dos and don'ts of feeding chickens that one finds in books and on these forums. My way is simpler and it works, so I just keep doing it!
