FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

You could probably ask a mod to let you edit your first page. You never know, I know mods have the power.

I would....but the mods around here are none too fond of me.

They even stripped me of my BYC Educator badge that I didn't ask for, here recently, and I still don't know why. I guess one day they thought I could teach folks and gave me one, then decided I was a bad influence and took it away.

Guess tellin' it like it is will get you in the dog house.

Maybe after all my spring choring is done and there is a little lull in work in the heat of the summer...that would be a good time. But it still wouldn't help anyone who runs onto this thread and hits that first page. Not unless we could link it over on that page. Meanwhile TikTokk has an amazing rundown on such things so I usually just give newbies the link to her blog site when they ask questions that have already been answered a million times.

Dear Bee,

I am SURE you can teach some things. Two years ago I read your blog about your flock, and have been following along since. (and feed FF) Many others also have profited from your information I'm sure!

As far as the ones that don't appreciate it, maybe you're just not saying what they want to hear? Rules and politics are not very helpful at times.

I follow several threads, and post sometimes, but I like to read your posts in any. You are intelligent, and also have tons of 'common' sense, inventive, and tenacious. Thanks bunches for sharing!!!

Sincerely appreciative,
Ginni

My feed smells sort of like nail polish remover... Should I be concerned?
Mix is half 18% manna pro chick feed, half 28% wild game grower and soaked in just enough water to make an oatmeal-like consistency. Gets stirred two to three times per day when I feeds out from it and new feed/water added once daily (1 cup each type of feed)

I wouldn't feed what you are currently feeding....you'll burn a hole right through their bowels!

No chicken on Earth needs that much protein and it's harmful to them to feed it...they simply cannot metabolize it and all that extra protein has to be excreted somehow.

My sister was feeding the wild game grower~not even fermented, mind you~and wondering all the while why her chickens kept dying. They went into renal failure and had massive ascites(fluid in their abdomens), making it difficult for them to even breathe. As soon as she went back to feeding a normal, balanced layer ration designed for chickens, her flock's health improved and her laying resumed.

Oh lord... They've been eating it for two weeks now? And seem to have normal poops, normal breathing and are growing like crazy!?
Added: I bought a 50# bag of the 28% for a turkey poultry that died the same night we bought it. I was hoping I would be able to use it up on the chicks while they grew out till I switched to layer but I'll save it for a turkey when we get another one.
