FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Oh that's good to know. I won't worry about a strainer bucket at all, then.

It is too bad one can't go back and edit old posts esp. about something as important as this.

If this site would allow us to edit our first page of the threads that info would be included there but they don't, so folks find out much later that the method has morphed and has become more convenient to use and feed as we go along. I'm sorry about that and wish I could edit that first page's info but it is what it is.

Could always write it up in a 'page' or 'article' format then link it in your siggy and/or paste the link into posts as necessary...then you could edit/update it for years. ;-)

You're good writer, it would be great for newbies to read a concise documentation instead of wading thru pages and pages of chat to get started.

I normally just give folks the link to TikkTok's blog site as that work has already been done. I'll take your good suggestion and place her link in my siggy so that if folks are paying good attention they might see it there.

It's also in my siggy, but I don't see signatures in mobile view. On regular desktop, yes. {At least it ought to still be there....}

That was a method I came up with to drain a whole bucket of mostly whole grain feed for feeding meat chicks and just carried it over to feeding layers, but found out I didn't have to strain the layer feed if I just mixed it thicker and left it dryer. Eventually I came down to using the single bucket when I brought it inside for the winter and found I liked the simplicity of it more than the double bucket system.

Well, our ducks just got here from the Post Office. They seem to love the fermented feed!

ok guys now my hens and littles are addicted to the fermented mash (tickTock style with 1 container) it took me 4 days abut now I just bask wash what is used that day. With only 8 hens and 2 littles I have 2 separate batches 1 layers crumble and 1 flock raiser for the littles...they LOVE it and it was easy to starts. I have noticed they are using 1/3rd less per day and looking healthier...poops are more solid and smell less as well...they do not want the pellets at all any longer...I wash and fill the bowls 3 times a day..breakfast lunch and dinner and they finish it all in about 30 mins...they also get veggies, fruits and some table scraps...they have shiny feathers and are putting on weight at a reasonable rate...getting an egg a day from the 8 bigs 4-5 days a week and 7/8 the other 3 days

Our ducks continue to do well on the FF. And there is NO smell. A friend with much poultry experience is going to start fermenting his feed now after he took a whiff of our brooder.

Wow, so much good information. I am new to the chicken scene, actually new to the farming scene. lol. I have been fermenting my chicken feed since my first 4 girls were 8wks. I use Purina Start and Grow. I have a plastic bin I mix the feed and water into and place the lid on. The lid does not seal the container. The lid just keeps other particles from getting in. I have found my girls love it and stay well hydrated. Not to mention their poo is more solid. They don't waste feed nor eat as much, therefore sparing our wallet. Our girls look plump and healthy. I don't want skinny chickens.
