FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Fed fermented chick starter to my 6 week olds yesterday. At first they made the "sour lemon" face when they took a bite, but by the end of the day they were completely ignoring their dry crumbles in favor of the FF. Two chicks did have a bit of runny stool last night, but I expect that's normal and their guts will adjust quickly. They dug into their breakfast this morning without hesitation!

I've been feeding fermented feed to my new chicks since the day I got them. They seem to like it. But it does get all over their faces, it's kind of funny to watch them wipe their face on their paper towel bedding. They're going to have a problem when I change it to Pine shavings.
Should I add more water to it to make it more runny, or are they just going to get it on their face no matter what I do?

Mine are on shavings and don't have a problem. I made it pretty thick though.

They actually have an easier time wiping on the pine shavings or other rough litter than they do the paper towels. You'll see when you switch over. Mix it as dry as you can and it will be easier for them.

Yes, I was told to use paper towels for the first week or two. There are pine shavings underneath. Which they seem to find it on the corners :) I have been making it pretty dry, comparably. I'll probably change over to just pine shavings sometime the middle of this week or so. They are just over a week old right now. Much smaller than the ones I got a couple years ago.
I didn't really like the consistency of the starter grower food I got so I got some scratch and peck starter feed and mix the two together. The consistency after it's fermented seems better.

Yay! Fermented feed for breakfast!

I ask this question earlier didn't get a response so thought I would try one more time. If you boil regular tap water on the stove will it remove the undesired chemicals?

Boiling will kill most pathogens.
Probably remove the chlorine if that's what your municipality uses to treat water......but just sitting out for 24 hours will take care of that.
Not sure if it would remove chloramine, which is often used.
What chemicals are you concerned about?
