FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

thank you. They are also mostly free range so eat lots of other things. When the snow hits that will stop. Any one ever feed the fermented food warm?

Yes in the winter my mom uses a heated dog water bowl for it. This is my first winter w/ my new flock in NY so I think I may try that as well

I had considered that if my sun room works out well for the chickens, that might free up the heated dog bowl to put FF in. But, realistically, I think it's more important to keep the water thawed.

yeah I will have to leave heated water bowl out for water. Maybe take out warm food in morning.

It's interesting that you're getting good egg production but yet by mixing the two feeds (14% and 16% proteins) in a 1:1 ratio that your protein percentage would arrive at an amount lower than was is normally considered minimum. I certainly can't argue with success, though. Other than good egg production your chickens haven't had any health problems, feather-picking, etc.,? Just curious here. Thanks for the response!

Nope, not intentionally. Some do, though. That discussion came about when folks were talking about their dogs stealing FF from the chickens or the slop bucket.

I wouldn't mind fermented the dog food at all but it's just not a top priority like it is for the chickens, though it probably should be if it can save me on dog food consumption like it does with chicken feed and produce the same health benefits. Come spring I may even try it out.

The dogs do love the fermented/rotten pumpkins and squash that I feed the chickens too and will lick every speck off the ground.

Ok, gotcha. I'm sure my dog may try to eat the FF. I'll have to keep that in mind as I will be keeping it indoors in the back room. You'll have to let us know how it turns out with the dog food.

Nupro dog vitamins. I have some left over from my dog showing days. Any reason I should not add some to my fermented feed just before I feed it?

I'd consider it (in moderation) if I had it sitting around my house.

You can OD on the fat-soluble vitamins (ADEK) so don't add every day.
