Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I have been all over Randolph in one way or another.  I used to live in Tucker when just a tyke, then have lived in Pendleton for the past several years.  I used to work for Mountain Hospice, so have traveled into and out of Randolph pert near all my life as we traveled to and fro back and forth to live, fish, camp, and then to live again over in that region.  Also for my job with MH.  :frow

Beekissed! You said "pert near"! I thought I was about the only one left who uses that. . . Word? I got it from my grandparents years ago.
Aw heck naw. I use 'Pert Near' and I wager I'm a few moons younger than you are :D Got it from where I grew up in Texas (I also 'tump' over a glass of ice, but 'spill' the sugar, and I'm fixin' ta fix it any day now). Folks on the Left Coast STILL do not know what to do with me and I've been here more than half my life. :D

WV...don't forget. I can speak like a civilized individual.... or I can speak pure hill jack when I get in the company of friends. Believe it or not, there are some folks 'round these parts still speaking hillbilly every day like it's no thing. Pert near, nigh on, nary a one, least one, just a mite, just a tad, tote instead of carry, poke instead of sack, crawdad instead of crawfish or crayfish, etc. Wouldn't want those rich old words to get lost to the memory of man.

Bee, I missed it somehow or another. What part of WV are you at? I've got folk around Matewon, all up and down the Tug, mostly Ferrels and Hatfields. Through my mom's mom.

(and where I'm from, it's 'plum good' too... I don't ask why)

I was raised part time near Parkersburg and part time in Tucker County growing up, then we settled onto a homestead about 20 mile out of P'burg for most of my formative years. Then I moved to Pendleton County for 6 yrs and am finally back on the old homestead outside of P'burg..or part of it. My dad's folks were from down Huff Creek, Wyoming County and my granny was reputed to be one of Anse Hatfield's illegitimate children, born in his house in KY. Who knows that one for sure...it's a tangled bloodline story down in those parts.

Question for ya'll: I have 13 girls and all will be exactly 6 months old on the 27th of this month. A couple of them have been laying for over a month now and a couple more have started within the last 2-3 weeks. I was getting 6 eggs per day for a week or so, now I'm back down to 4 eggs per day and it has been that way for over a week now. Is it normal for this to happen at an early age and also, if 4-6 are laying and have been for 3 weeks to a month, then why are the rest of my 6-8 girls not laying nor have they even started ? I figured by 6 months they would all be laying.

The other thing to remember is that when your girls first start laying, they don't lay every day. The machinery has to get broken in, if you know what I mean. If you have 13 girls and most of them look like they would be laying due to comb appearance etc., they probably are, just not daily yet.
