Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Hellbender, I raise FWs. If you ever decide you want some more, I'm happy to send you a few, free of charge. Just gotta get 'em to you. I don't show, but my stock is out of show lines and are good rabbits.

It's a shame they can be difficult to find. I had to drive 16 hours to pick up my first stock.

Hello everyone, new to fermented feed and this morning I woke up to this:

700

It's a weird white film on top that's trapping the bubbles as they come to the surface. Is this normal, or should I toss the batch? It still smells okay, but I don't know... Thanks for any advice!

I answered you on the ny thread :)

It's normal...it's the scoby. That's the good stuff!

You might consider adding less water next time, though, so your mix won't be so soupy. You'll enjoy the ease of feeding out the thicker mix as opposed to the soupy stuff that has to be strained.

That's one of the reasons I had a harder time killing the rabbits than any other kind of livestock except my lambs....to much total soft cuteness even at butchering age. It's a hard thing to slice through that softness.

Pardon my stupidity, but does FW stand for Florida Whites?

I just might take you up on that!!! We still have the cages. Shipping is nothing compared to the actual purchase of stock, as you know. We drove to Toledo Ohio to get ours...quite a jump too!

Bee...this may not be any easier for some but the way I found best to off them is cerebral separation. So quick and bloodless.

Yep..we were doing something similar by just using a tire iron to the back of the skull but I'm not much of a fan of that one due to the large margin for error. I've seen the Rabbit Wringer and I like the idea of it but not the price.

Found a neato way to gut though, courtesy of TW.....

Wonder if this would work on a chicken?

Perhaps not too similar. I put the subject on a table, hold subject with thumb and index finger on each shoulder and use same from the other hand on either side of the subject's head..Simply pull. Quick, clean and no margin of error.
