Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

TW, it has been pouring here too. Last night the winds were crazy and woke me up a bunch. Didn't help that I am alone in the house this weekend. My SO is off in NY visiting his familly until the 24th... Which left me with making sure nothing tried to blow away overnight. (Which nothing did.) I ended up nudging through a yard that was litterally a bog (one or two feet of mud under several inches os standing water) to feed the chooks. Their area, covered in nice absorbant and easilly drained woodchips, is the dryest spot in my lawn right now!

It's not near as bad here as I thought it would be. The coops all held up but two of them did get pretty wet inside. It was raining so hard and fast that the water didn't have anywhere to go but run inside them. So yep, dirty eggs! I'm going to have to see about getting some more bedding to add tomorrow.

I'm glad you came out alright!

I would do this for my daughter, but since her cell phone croaked last night, it might be a little too unforgettable.......phones are a touchy subject right now......

LOL.

My family has been doing this sort of thing to each other for decades now. Heck, just yesterday when we had Early Christmas with the family over the mountains, I carefully opened a box of Swiffer dusters and put a tshirt inside, then sealed it back up with hot glue so it looked like it hadn't been tampered with. The look on the 17 year old's face was PRICELESS...especially because his room looks like a biohazard.

It was exactly as bad here as I thought it would be. The coop got drenched on al sides and it's pretty damp inside as a result. I am going to open up the side "cleaning" door later today and let it air out to the best of my abilities. Then I will add another 1-2 whole newspapers torn up into the coop. My DL in the coop is starting to take effect... It's warmer inside the coop than out significantly and the bedding hasn't frozen recently... So that must mean I am doing something right! But too much water is a recipe for disaster!

The meat chickens are starting to look much better after their hawk attack. They're not huddled up at all anymore and are enjoying the little bit of SUNSHINE we have been getting today! It is 60 degrees out right now!

The whole are is under flood watch though. So much snow and rain makes for a lot of water. The standing water no longer literally covers my lawn but the mud is still a foot deep. I worry about how my lawn will be when it freezes...

And the baby rabbits FINALLY got fed. Looks like mama might take proper care of them after-all! She's mighty wigged out by me right now, though. She's just going to have to get used to it. I won't have a doe that can't deal with me being around while she has kits. I check on the kits on day one every time. If that sets off a doe too much that doe is out!

We had all the flood and tornado watches and warnings and all that last night. It dumped a lot of water as it passed through. The ground was already saturated from the week of snow/sleet/ice. But I have seen worse. God is good! :)

I'm glad your mama bunny is finally feeding those babies. I agree, nervous animals have to get over it around here. I'm the only one allowed to be crazy! LOL

I'm glad your meaties have calmed down. I bet that hawk scared the pee water out of them! LOL A hawk in your shicken tractor is something that doesn't just happen every day! LOL

I have a nephew that I do that to. hehe He actually likes it.

So when a bucket of FF runs low I take the Scooby lol and dump it into the waiting FF bucket. The rinse original empty bucket and start another batch in it.

I slacked off on a bucket because I had a spare...go to wash it today and find its a mouse trap lol.
