Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Hey, everyone! If I don't get to see you on here tomorrow due to power outages, stay safe and warm! I hope your animals weather the weather extremes and we'll all report back here when we can. Y'all stay upright out there...especially you, TW!

Hey, everyone!  If I don't get to see you on here tomorrow due to power outages, stay safe and warm!  I hope your animals weather the weather extremes and we'll all report back here when we can.  Y'all stay upright out there...especially you, TW!  :old   No falls!

Hey I have to be good at something. Too bad for me it has to be a little bit painful. LOL Thank you and YOU be careful out there! Hope your electric stays on.

My older group have slowed down a little bit. That's okay, they can have a rest but they better pull the plug outta that egg chute come spring! lol The younger bunch are still doing okay. My Ancona pullet is going to have nice eggs. Her yolks are darker orange than the rest. I hope she lays good. Might have to have some more of those. I like her, she's always pestering me. Picked her up the other day and you would have thought I was trying to kill her. She's plumb cute. I hope all my roos weather this stuff okay. I hope their combs and wattles AND THEM come out alright. I had read and heard how flighty Leghorns and Anconas are. That's not true in my case. Those two roos are among my friendliest and the pullets are fine too.

I wondered about their disposition. Aren't they rather small? 4-5 lbs?

Morning, everybody ok? The plumber came yesterday and wrapped our pipes so we still have water. Cold, yes, but beautiful out today. Surprisingly no rain or anything. Hope y'all made it through the night without power outages.

Y'all are such a hoot!!!

So, 16 degrees here with a windchill of 2 degrees. It rained really hard and blew into all spaces last night so my bedding is partially moist. The good news is that it's 22 degrees in my coop, instead of 2, and a good bit of the bedding stayed dry and the chooks look none the worse for wear. Even Sissy Legwarmers was down off the roost and looking chipper.

Other good news is that the wet under the snow has not frozen into ice just yet so was able to get the wood cart up the ramp without falling on my muchly padded tookus. Layer up on clothes when you go out today, guys, because that wind will cut you like a k-nif! It's blowing absolutely straight sideways here from the west so all structures and trees are whitewashed on that side. I don't think the snow will amount to much but that wind is a chiller...er...killer.

Dog went right back to his deeply sweet and warm bed of hay, so it's a cold day in the neighborhood...I think I saw him trying to lure the cat into his lair with a bit of dog food so he could layer on an additional fur coat.
