Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

If you want a broody hen you can have mine! Copper the Boring (one of three BAs in my flock who all went broody last year) went broody three times last year. The last time she went broody and stayed broody in the broody buster for 2-3 weeks, finally layed an egg, rejoined the flock and was broody again in 24 hours. Then she sat for 3 MORE weeks until I got her eggs.... And then she hatched those out successfully and was raising them quite nicely until the local cats ate them. Broodiest brat ever! It would be great.... If I had any sort of rooster or easy access to hatching eggs. 9_9 If I move south west I could live right next to Meyer Hatchery.... But right now they're quite the drive.

I have also been getting some eggs recently... All frozen, mind. We also had one that was cracked in half and eaten by the chooks. Not cool guys! Hoping it cracked from being frozen and they just ate it while I was gone for 48 hrs this week even though I put down lots of food.

Me too! Of course I don't like to see any animal mistreated but I think a lot of people have gone a little nuts, psshhht totally nuts! They cry and moan over every hairy creature out there yet they do what they do to human babies and the elderly and nobody is on tv shedding a tear over them. And to me, the word "rescue" has lost all meaning. When I think of "rescue" I think of somebody running into a burning building or something to rescue a person or even an animal. Now they have tagged the name "rescue" on every creature that goes through an animal shelter.

Exactly. Back in my day those were called "strays" or "pound puppies" but nothing quite so heroic as "rescues". Like someone should get a Purple Heart for adopting a dog from the pound. It's a dog. Ever hear anyone having "rescue" children that were saved from bad parents, sexual abuse, physical abuse, etc.? Nope..they are just called foster or adopted children...no courage or bravery noted when you save a child from a horrible life and possible death at the hands of abusers.

Bee, I bought season 4 of Duck Dynasty on dvd today. Now I have to decide which rooster to bring in to watch it with me. Do I make them take turns or just let them draw straws and one get to come in for a Duch Dynasty marathon...? But that's not really fair. I just don't know what to do! LOL

Why not bring them in as a group, as everything is funnier when you watch it with several people...er....chickens.

Oh me, that would be like driving with half a dozen kids in the backseat! Nooo thank you! hahahaha Well the decision has narrowed a little bit today. Aussie roo is in time out again...sigh. I had the dog in the pen with me and just wondered if he would find it in his heart to protect his master should that big mean bird try to kill her again. NOPE, he ducked for cover when the rumble went down. Sissy dog, gonna put a pink skirt on him! He would have ran clean out of the county if he hadn't been locked in. hahahaha Crazy chickens... I cought another mouse in the garage and I forgot I had layed it on top of the ff in the bucket to give to the chickens. I sat the bucket down to scoop the ff out and a pullet saw that mouse. She let out a raptor scream and I'm telling you she snatched it out of that bucket and took off! hahahaha There was a big brawl over that mouse - one time three pullets had hold of it tearing it apart. LOL They ran over the dog, under the dog, ran the dog all over the pen and got into a scrap by my feet and left a scratch on my leg! Dang!!! No wonder I don't ever see any mice at their coop! Hmmm...now I wonder about snakes. What did I ever do for entertainment before chickens? lol I've got to video these mouse wars.

That Aussie clearly needs sent to the Chicken Psychology Center to learn to live in a flock and the Chicken Whisperer can work with him on his human aggressive tendencies.

So true! I'm glad somebody sees that the way I do.

Nooo, I have toned down my wardrobe so as not to offend his sensibilities. LOL My offense today was picking up a gallon jug of water I left in the coop over night to see if it would freeze. I guess he fell in love with that water jug...? But he missed me...ha ha ha (evil laugh)!!! ...but I didn't miss him! HA!

My chickens are used to my wild wardrobe, bright fusha pink, neon green/yellow w/ reflectors, blue green w/ tiny bright yellow flowers, psychedelic paisley, you name it I've probably wore it into the chicken / garden area, they don't even bat an eye.

@Bee... Maaaaybe you ought to open one of those nonprofit Rooster Rescues??? You could get people to pay you out the wazooo to let their roosters live out their lives at your place. You could charge them a monthly fee or figure out how much/month X expected number of years a roo is expected to live and charge a lifetime fee. You could even put in a "bed and breakfast" so they could come visit their roo. Should you decide to do this I was to be an investor!

Sounds perdy. I like some color. I think my roo is just a grouch. And grouchy roos taste like...chicken. lol
