Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Don't feel bad...they close school now just because of how cold it is! And that's when kids don't even have to walk to school or wait at a central bus house for the buses to come! They never closed school when I was little for such nonsense and all the kids in the neighborhood had to walk to the same bus house so the bus didn't have to make so many stops...and we had to walk a mile to the hard road to even get to the bus house.

Everyone is just a weenie now and that's a fact~doesn't matter what part of the country you live. When I was in 5th grade it snowed so bad it covered our house to the eaves and we had to make a hole to climb out of and slide down into your home...and they never closed the schools that day.
So very true. I had to walk to the bus stop in a dress every day (school uniform) almost a mile from home and they never closed school for low temps or snow. Now it seems they close for just about anything.

And the weather forecasters, news & goverment have made everyone so self resilant on them that they need people to tell them how to be safe, when to drive, etc. Friends & I were discussing this a couple of weeks ago when the blizzard came through. Seems people can no longer think for themselves anymore. I ask people all the time how do you think people survived before tv, phones, etc? All the advancements we have has made people dumb. IMO

I agree! Those days are gone and how sad their passing...people were more resilient then and more self-sufficient. Now they think they are self sufficient if they have 3 chickens in the backyard and grow tomatoes in a pot on the back patio.

Whelp, I got some hatching eggs in today! Little disappointed in how they were packaged... Especially for the price. They were all wrapped individually in bubble wrap but they were loosely in a "bag" of bubble wrap beyond that, on their sides... They could move around, albeit not much, but they weren't fat end up that's for sure. The "fragile" writing was visible but light purple on white and there was no "do not X-ray, hatching eggs, this side up" etc on them. One of them was REALLY small and all discolored across the shell, too. Spotty. The eggs were messy on the outside and spotty when I tried to candle. Might have been just thin shells but might have been bacteria too.

Fingers crossed that they hatch OK! :(

Hello everyone. I have read and still don't understand how to ferment my babies food. Please help. I bought soy milk and sunflower seeds without the shells. How do I start? How many days or hours do I let it sit and can I feed it to my one week old. I couldn't find the apple cider vinegar. I saw acv and thought that it was a chicken vitamin. Lol I guess I can get it in the grocery store.
So any one please help

You won't want to use any soy milk...it has no purpose. Just place some chicken feed in a bucket, add the same amount of water, stir it well and keep it at room temps with the top uncovered. Stir it again tomorrow and just let things happen. It doesn't matter how long it takes. You should have some fermentation going in 24 hrs and it will just continue to increase from there. It's as easy as that. Stir it every day before you feed the chickens and, yes, you can feed it to any age of chicken.

Thank you. It's starting to make sense.
