Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

You are going to hurt his feelings. :( LOL Yeah, that frostbit part turned black and just shriveled up to nothing. I noticed today it is gone like it never was there.

Naw...he and I have an understanding. He knows I really like him, despite his foo foo-ness.

I can't bring myself to call him Sweetums and the original name has stuck solid~Fat Cochin, said as all one word, like FatCochin. He has his own story and he might yet be a tough guy, I'll just have to wait and see.

Everybody getting ready for the next winter blast? Heard it's coming. Hummmmm. Well it'll be gone by next Friday and I'm gonna go to a culling party with a fellow BYC buddy that lives fairly closeby. Jennifer is going to teach me the basics. I don't promise about the axe though. I'm planning on a cone and a knife.

I've watched and read so many methods of processing I feel confident about that. But the point is, I'm getting my feet wet. She seems so nice. I'll report back on how it went.

With a buddy is always the best first time processing. Good luck.

I'm ready for the blast...going to try and get a dusting box of some kind rigged up for my chooks...been a long time since they saw any dirt and they've been trying to dust in the deep litter and leaves. Not quite the same as the good stuff. I'm going to fasten a bottom to an old tire and place that in the coop, fill it full of sand, ashes, and lime so they will have some good dusting stuff.

If I'm still here in the spring I'm going to make some changes to my coop to give them more space and more light and more lounging room when the weather keeps them confined to quarters.

Thanks to both of you. I appreciate it. Excited!!
Bee, how many chickens do you have in your coop. 2 cattle panels, right?

Yep...just the two. I'm going to expand but not sure just how I'm going to do it yet...make it longer or somehow make it wider. I only have 10 birds and I currently have an 8x10 coop but it just feels cramped to me...I need more space!
