Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Oooh! Good job, rose! I would feel all jealous of your pressure cooked rooster (Mmmm!). Except today I ate slow cooked chipotle BBQ pulled rabbit sandwiches and I have enough leftovers to eat it tomorrow too! :3 (Home made bbq sauce of course!)

What a talented bunch of ladies we have on this thread, I tell ya! Wish we could have a big ol' potluck picnic one day and everyone bring their favorite dish, sit long into the night around a cracklin' fire and chatter 'til we wake up the whippoorwills.

Hi, I was looking at Meyer's chicks today. Wheaten Americaunas are $20! And if I remember right, Cream Legbars are too. And I want some of each. My Americaunas lay such barely blue eggs. I wonder if the legbars eggs are bluer? They (Meyer's) say their Americaunas are pure blood. Maybe I got Easter Eggers and not real Americaunas and that's why their eggs aren't very blue. I got a bunch of blue Americauna crosses from my lavendar Ameriauna rooster and my black Australorp and Black Maran hens. They should lay olive eggs; the girls anyway. Linda, Your daughter is here in town (Austin)? Is she into chickens? If so, is she in the meetup here? I might know her? I forget, where are you located? Someone tell me how to put fotos on here, please. I have fotos of my chicks on my desktop. : )

I'd love a good brine recipe, I have yet to do so and read a lot of processing info that just says "brine" lol no recipe for a mix or length of time...

Angelicisi, Thanks for getting us these brine recipes. I thought brine was only salt water! Learn so much on here. Tell me, those blue eggs on your avatar, are they Americauna or Legbar or pure blood chickens or what? I'm longing for really blue eggs like those. THX : )

Ohhh how I wish I lived anywhere near West Virginia! Or that I was rich and could round up all these good gals in my private plane and we'd all go see Bee! Wouldn't that be the coolest thing? Can't you just imagine what fun we'd have? I sometimes wonder what I'd do if I ever won the lottery or the Publishers Clearing House thing. Now I know! One can dream. : )

Hi there ladies (and gents). I see a lot of you have been all productive lately. Sounds good!

@RoseMarie... great job on that roo! Was he an Aussie or a RIR? My Aussies that I processed were real dark meat like that. The taste reminded me of game meat. How did you cook him or how are you going to cook him? I hope he is finger lickin' good! :)

@Chocolate Mouse... that rabbit sounds good too, sauce and all! Have you ever heard of a black or black/white NZ meat rabbit? I wonder if they are as good as the white or if it makes a difference. I wonder about the reds too. How much should NZ breeders weigh??? I've got wabbits on my mind!

My spoiled teenage son only likes "homemade chicken" . That means raised and butchered here on our place usually hatched here as well.

Sounds like a wise child! lol Maybe he will take a big interest in growing some chickens to eat. That is great in a young man!
