Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

We looked into the miniature cow a while back and from what I read they are just the original strain of Jersey cow before they were breed up to the larger size used in the milk industry today

I made a sorghum cake today that called for butter milk, since I didn't have any I used 1 cup milk to 1 teas. of ACV and left it sit 5 min while preparing everything else it was ready to go when I needed to add it.

Hmm, I don't think I agree with that. In reading an article called "The Origin of the Jersey" it says that the original breed size was about 45-50 inches, and the mini height standard is under 42".. Plus there are many other types of cattle that are now being miniaturized as well.

Was watching the new chicks today. They were eating the FF along w/Momma. Took out some left over salad w/tomato; they were pecking at that. Had bread crust also and the chicks loved that also. Not eating much at a time but then this evening is day 3.

Sounds like Mama is teaching them well.

I've found that the best way to keep the FF cooking well is to leave a quarter of your amount, add two to three scoops more food, then add enough hot water to have about two inches over the food. I stir that up, and its real soupy, letting it cook for about two hours and getting real bubbly. Then I add another scoop or so of food, let that thicken up and the chickens love it. It took me a while to figure out my own method, but I've found that if you keep it real thin at first it starts to cook faster.
I've also noticed that the longer the batch lasts, the thinner it gets. I tried making more at once, but by the fourth or fifth days it just grosses me out. So now I make enough for three maybe four days, and by the last day it's pretty soupy, but the chickens still love it.
I'm still happy with the FF. Even with it being colder out it's still worth it to me. There is no smell in the coop, or the barn, and all my birds look beautiful.

Thought I'd share this video of my fresh chicks enjoying the FF. :D They are a day old, and at the end you can see the two week old chicks who taught them how to eat appear. :) It worked out really well!! Chicken see, chicken do ;)
