Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

oh my goodness, I watched that on Netflix hoping it had something to do with natural history, or even chickens, for that matter.  It didn't....AT ALL :th
I know right! :gig

I don't know why, but that name sent me back to the documentary on the natural history of the chicken.

Watch at least the guy imitating a rooster. We laughed so hard we cried. This documentary was a waste of time, but we laughed the entire time. It was just too much. Natural? History? :gig

WOW.. i watched that twice.:lau after rolling on the floor and gasping for breath from the human chicken mating dance  thank you, i am still laughing!
Poor birds. tethers are just cruel, that's horrible.
You're like me. We laughed so hard my jaw was sore! :lau

I have a question about the inner bucket, do you put holes in the bottom too? My outer bucket has no liquid in it at all, and I have alot of holes in the inner bucket around the sides. I used a cordless drill and a 1" wood screw to make my holes. I keep my ff very thick but thought at least some liquid would drain through.
I used the biggest drill bit I had and drilled lots along the bottom and 2 rows up the bottom sides.

It drains no problem, and it's fine crumble.

I'm going to be doing 4 more like it, and will post pictures of it that way. Too hard to take pictures of the inner bucket without making a mess :p

Hello well I have been getting fermented feed from local brewerys of barley mash and I have been mixing it with corn and oats and i just harvested a 5 of my cornish cross. Well I got 5 good size birds in the freezer now and I think i will be doing fermented beer mash from now on the birds love it over normal feed and it only cost $10 for a 35 gallon trash can full.

Can someone tell me if this looks right? I'm a little concerned as I've never done this before. I've got no idea what it's really supposed to look like, but I'm starting to think that it's too wet? Or is this ok?

Too wet, add more feed :)

Should look something like this. Only should show a bit of juice when you stir.

Also, you want your holes to be under the feed, not above it - or it's always going to be really soupy unless you drain it off. You can just add feed until you hit above the hole lines.. Though you may just need a new inner bucket. How much room do you have above your last drill holes?

Ok, I added another scoop of feed, and it's no longer soup...it looks more like cooked barley or rice now. A thicker consistency, but still soggy.

Am I on the right track now? It looks much similar to yours.

:gig
I probably would have too if my drill wasn't so darn heavy.
I'll wait for Bee to answer this one. I think it's too many holes that is causing all the soupy feed.

If its a problem, I can grab another bucket...thankfully they're only $2 at Walmart.

If I redrill, how many holes and what should their placement look like? Should I drill holes on the bottom too?
