An update on the quail, They are still eating the ff feed plus a feeder of dry due to my schedule I have to leave a second feeder incase I am not there......I have noticed that they wont touch the dry untill all of the ff is gone...am feeding gamebird twice a day, I fill up the bottom of a round plastic chick feeder each time for 20 quail, seems to last them thru to next feeding, considering quail are very hardy eaters for such little things I think this is good.

Awesome! Have you noticed a change in the smell? Are you just feeding fermented gamebird or are you adding grain to it too?

Beekissed....haven't seen you around for a few days, hope everything is well!! So, did you butcher your CX yet? Can't wait for a flavor update from someone!!

The quail hatched on the 15th and are still in my basement, all I smell is the straw that I use for bedding...complete clean out of all brooders is done every sat...they only get the gamebird for now no other treats or anything....i did have to cover them at the end of the first week they flew right out of the stock tank that they are in. I did measure the feed they got this morning it was only a quarter cup of ff, and this is normally what I would put it...I do not plan on keeping any long term though, these are for the grill..

WOW...a quarter of a cup of FF for 20 birds!?! How long does that last before you have to feed them again?

I feed this twice a day approximately twelve hours apart, will up the amount if I notice it is always empty...so far so good, they are growing quickly, removed the light today, all are feathered out. If this works out and they are tasty I will be on the lookout for quail eggs in a larger amount.

Someone asked earlier about using 4" pvc pipe for a feeder. I ran with the idea and borrowed from a thread about feeders to come up with this FF feeder. They cost me about $13 each.

I hang it from wire or chain so the height can be adjusted. Just un hook it and take it outside to clean with the hose.

A couple things I did:
- Cut a 10 foot pipe into 3 feeders
- Drill a hole in the pipe before gluing the end caps to prevent air pressure in the pipe from pushing out before the glue dries
- Used a rotary tool on high speed with a cutting wheel - it goes thru this pipe like a hot knife thru butter

Breakfast outside:
