Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Weighed 2 of my meaties yesterday. I weighed one of the smaller ones and she weighed 2 lbs 14 oz and the other was a bigger girl and she weighed 3 lbs 2 oz. We are about a week slower on growth than the Welps chart but all are happy and healthy. Hubby said that he wouldn't even mind having to feed them for a couple more week, sure...beings I'm the one doing all the work!! :D JK!!

I had a CX last year that was just a big ol' meanie and was attacking all the other chicks so he got put into solitary chicken jail and then was allowed to run free with the bigger girls. Well he ended up endearing himself to me and I couldn't butcher him, he was HUGE and I knew that he wouldn't live very long but..... His name was "Naughty Chicken" and I loved him!!! I was sad when he died. :hit

I had one that I liked a bunch, but it was the only CX I had at the time. Long story but CX raised with another chick as a buddy. Only chick I could find at the time. It was constantly being pecked at and used as a trampoline and when it finally quit even trying to keep up with the others it was dinner. I cried a tear but it was still tasty.

I was just wondering that myself. It looks like she hasn't been on for over a week. Hope everything is OK.

On another note. Can the fermentation process be speeded along by adding yeast?

yup they look like miniature meat birds I guess.... 3 1/2 lbs before processing. I got them at the feed store who got them from cackle

I read somewhere that beekissed is doing a workshop on processing meaties on June 2 , now I can't find where I read that, but since I injured my foot, doesn't look like I can attend anyway..darn. I would guess she is getting ready for all that - plus holiday weekend folks, may have had a BBQ...:-)

Cornish X are Cornish X Rocks. Do you happen to have any pictures? They can't be Cornish X birds with them only weighing 3 1/2 lbs at 9 weeks!! What did you feed?
