They are obnoxious to get off once they bite, you can see them better if they bite and latch one b/c the area is itchy, red and swollen. It takes tweezers, and a steady hand to get them off, sometimes even a "phone a friend" lol I always find them around an engorged tick that is recently deflated, so assumed that is where they came from. I used to live in the wooded country and they were everywhere, since moving to town and out of the woods and using frontline, or advantage on the dogs I haven't seen them in quite a while. They are also usually "enmass" at least when I see them. If you have found several in the house and on you I would bet you have a deflated engorged tick somewhere. They are easy to miss in the carpet (one of many reasons I don't have it anymore) or under a piece of furniture or in the crack (bend) where the floor and wall meet, those are favorite spots for them.

That IS my layer ration...with some whole grain and boss. That's what fresh ground layer looks like...you just can't see the finer ground bits lying under the whole grains in the mix. In the layer, oats are not always ground and the corn looks merely crushed and then there are finer ground grains in the mix that are like a powder or meal.

huh I can't get oats and barley around here yet imagine that!

I have asked EVERY TIME I go to get feed! Is that a season thing or something? As you can see I am CLUELESS to these things. Never had critters to feed or anything like this so clueless. I have scratch grains as well BUT they're not as yummy looking as yours are. ;-) Mine have little tiny round dark brown balls in them and I don't know WHAT kind of seeds those are. Then LOADS of cracked corn and something else. I guess I need to get the 7 way scratch grain instead of the 3 way. I wanted to mix some of the grains in with their layer but don't that lower the protein too low since it's only 16% already? Wondering HOW that would be when they start laying and if it would be enough. OHHHH I see Boss is thrown in there so that would raise it back up! OK

I hate poisons! You would think that a "poison" made from flowers would be fairly safe. So then, you weight the options... poison ~ or ~ Lyme Disease/Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever/Etc ...? I have got some stuff mixed up that should keep them off of me now: Avon Skin So Soft body oil, essential oils (cedar, tea tree, lavendar, cinnamon) and peppermint extract all mixed up in water in a spray bottle. lol It actually smells really good. But to kill any ticks that might be in the house? I keep a close check for ticks because as you can tell they freak me out a bit. lol I'm not scared of the tick its self. I am concerned about what they can do - and they are just gross! As much as I watch out for them I bet I have pulled at least 25 ticks off of me this year! That's not counting the ones that were just crawling! And now these DANG "seed ticks"! But one good thing, these seed ticks that I have found stuck on me are dead when I find them. The Dawn dishwashing liquid I've been using in the shower must really work on them - hallelujah!!!

Well I have found 4 crawling and 6-7 stuck on me. There are a whole lot of places on the human body that the occupier of that body just can't normally see! LOL You can see most of those places with a mirror but "the back" doesn't seem to be one of them-so yep "phone a friend" is required. LOL Yesterday I had somebody take a look at my back and wouldn't you know, ticks! But they were dead, thank goodness! I couldn't believe it because I had been scrubbing my back until it literally hurt. This is just so dang gross.

You poor thing! What a horrible thing to go through! Are you eating a lot of garlic? Getting that into your blood stream and seeping from your skin can sure help for some blood sucking insects. Of course, it will keep everyone else away too....

That Skin So Soft is some good stuff...but I hate the smell of it. I hate poison too...but sometimes it's just a fact of life. I don't like to get bitten by bugs, so poison I will use if I have to.

Soon it will be fall and no more ticks after first frost!

I have had my chickens kept up for a while due to dog drama but they have got to get busy! This tick situation is freaking me out! In all my years I have never even heard of much less seen "seed ticks". They are beyond bad! They will make you almost appreciate regular ticks!

Someone said to spread lime all around in your yard for ticks and fleas. It's the hydranated sp? lime I think is what they called it, said not caustic kind because it will harm the chickens. I don't know IF it works or not but I have been highly considering it because we have deer coming in here all the time and hubby has gotten 2-3 off himself. I guess I keep my legs and feet washed off so much with the water hose that I don't get them on me or if I do they get washed off? Anyway I want to try it so they will either leave OR get killed whichever.

We have lots of seed ticks here. I have a funny seed tick story, when I was a late teen a group of friends and I were riding around in the country and I see a plant I really liked in the middle of nowhere (I have always loved gardening) anyway they stopped so I could get a better look possibly see about taking sample or seed home. After I finished looking at the plant I got back in the car, we had not gone but a couple of feet before I realized I was covered in seed ticks. I started screaming for them to stop the car, I ran out in the middle of the road and started stripping. To this day I am glad of two things in particular, one that it was a country road, and two that I was wearing underwear that day! Oh and three, my dress was white that day so I could see them before it was to late.
oh noooooo yucky so glad you had on white to! chills..... now that one reminds me of one. My sister in law that lived fairly close to me has this little creek that runs through the woods really close to their house. You can see it from their house and her hubby cleaned out from around it so the kids could play in it. He put them up a slide and everything. Was just a small hole not wide at all in size. So my daughter is with them all when they take their first plunge. The baby daughter dives in first and when she comes out is covered and I do mean covered in those leech things. They all went screaming to the house saying black things were all over her and she couldn't get them off. Her Mom was howling in laughter but I didn't think it was funny because it freaked the girls out AND would have me AS WELL!
