Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

:lau Hey, you gave it away! I was waiting to see how many people would read the article... LOL!

Other animals of the same species have the same colored innards; cats, dogs, horses, even people. But those freaky little silkies have some different colored innards...? Strange.

Bee, be sure to take lots of pictures when you decide to knock Mr Fuzzy Britches off. I'd like to see that.

Yeah that's a little light on the egg count but I agree, they lay some beautiful eggs. I'd like to have a couple of those and a couple Easter Eggers too.

Good thing you did get the bigger place. Ya know, I've seen a lot of city folks that I wish had stayed in the city BUT I think you'd fit in well out here in the boonies. I'm afraid the powers that be would try to run me out of town if I lived there. lol

It was one of our priorities while house hunting. My suburb has NO animal laws (including chicken laws) other than no dogs and cats kept outdoors for more than 3 hours at a time, no animals running loose, and any animals housed and maintained outdoors have to be 100ft away from any neighbor's house. Since my back yard is over 100 feet long I just about got that. On one side I have about 8ft to the fence, on the other about 25ft. And that whole patch is my egg layer run with a rabbit hutch back there.

I don't want to give them a reason to put in chicken laws like some of the local areas around here. It's a step up from banning chickens but the rules are based on property lines, chickens per property (regardless of size, no roos, all sort fo crazy stuff. One of the local suburbs is "4 chickens per house (giant sorts of properties out there), must be maintained 20ft from property line (and any chicken poo IE compost has to be kept that far away too), no roosters, no killing of your chickens". That's right. Four hens, and you're not even allowed to cull your flock.

Guess what, local humane societies have been having trouble lately with people dropping off their non-laying older hens and having NOTHING to do with them because they don't have chicken facilities. Go animal rights groups! More animals in shelters! Success! -_-

I would love to live out in the boonies. I would not be all hat no cattle... First thing I would get for myself are those lovely miniature Jersey cows... The ones that are polled with the A2/A2 casein gene.... Start up a herd share... I'd have the most valuable cow's milk in the county!
(Although, I do admit I'd probably keep lots more sillier animals if I had the space.)

I've never heard that law about cats and dogs can be outside for no longer than three hours. That's an interesting one. I can see having some laws where neighbors are close. That's good of you trying not to cause any problems.

I don't know what they think people can do with 4 chickens! You'd probably be lucky to get 2-3 eggs/day - 4 if you are really lucky. Are family members suppsed to share an egg for breakfast? lol

Yep, pretty funny they don't know what to do with the hens being brought in. They will probably end up killing them and just taking them to a dump - a total waste.

I most certainly will, since the subject has arisen and not many silkies are being killed out there on this forum, it will probably be a little educational. And nothing would give me more pleasure than to educate folks on how to kill a silkie.

We have some people who will tie their dogs alone in the yard (often times the FRONT yard!!!) and leave them there, barking, all day and some of the night. The law makes them reconsider doing that. I say reconsider because a lot of people still do it and it's obnoxious.

The last thing I need right now is chicken laws introduced to my suburb. They'll probably ruin my flock plans!

When I bought my place it was a dream come true.... My original plan was to adopt when I could from the local shelters animals that I knew how to keep and had the financial ability..... horses donkeys goats the occasional chicken dogs cats.... Right now I have three adopted reprobates.... um er Goats. Oh the stories I could tell.
I thought I had had horses for 47 years how difficult could goats be.... Three nigerian dwarfs and one Pygmy...

Did you know:

1. Goats that never have been out of the back yard dont necessarily appreciate a collar and lead rope?
2. You can get Four goats in the back of a two door Geo metro.
3. No matter how "Goat proof" you make the car they will find your electric bill and eat it.
4. Goats who have never seen a rock before can leap off six foot high ones and run around to "do it again"
5. When a goat goes up on the roof of the patio and falls through both the roof and the hammock they only get skinned knees.
6. When the plumber leaves the crawlspace under the house open Goats can rewire the phone lines.

that was just in the first year... LOL.

HAAA! #5 got me! LOL I love goats, always have. They are some of the funniest creatures God ever created. I've had several and need some more. They are handy dandy to clean a place up and really good for a laugh AND make great pets. And they're very tasty too!

I place goats right along side silkies in my list of favorite animals....to despise.  :sick    I'm a sheep person....lova me some sheeple.  :love

Ohhhhh noooo! (shaking head) I remember one time I bought some goats and a couple sheep. A guy said, "You know, you're going to ruin these goats having them around those sheep?" LOL Goats have personality. Sheep have uhhh ...wool. LOL
