Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Bee got TWO eggs today! Yep!

The RIR hen that has been laying, her eggs are getting larger. This one was 50g. Got the board on the nesting area like you suggested and added more DL to the nests. They are both laying in the same nest. lol 4 nests and they lay in the same one.

I made a slight calculation error, CX were 6 weeks old yesterday..... so around 3 more and i'll be a busy boy. Depends if I have to go it alone or not, I probably will wind up doing the processing over 3-4 days. 24 is just too many to do at once without help. Still need to find a chest freezer, uh oh. lol it's the way I do things, I call it the tonsilectomy through the rectum syndrome...

"Tonsilectomy through the rectum syndrome"! LOL That is what my boyfriend would say about me for my lack of "having a plan" for everything. It just drives him crazy. My motto is, "I don't know, just do it!" I love the Jace Robertson of Duck Dynasty quote, "When you don't know what you're doing, it's best to do it quickly". I had to buy a notebook with that quote on it. LOL

FF doing better they know what it is now. Bee did you say 2 gallon jugs? So far I only found 1 gal. Looking at the birds and the jug... might not work dunno. I borrowed a metal cone and I was less than impressed.

Yes...2 gal. jugs. The one gal. are too short, I find. Wally World should have the 2 gal. jugs.

LOVE that quote...will have to steal it and use it, as it pretty much sums up how I learned any farming skills I ever obtained.

Awesome!

I started my 24 chicks on ff. We've had no issues so far, and any pasty butt resolved itself within 48 hours, so I know it's doing some good things for their little systems!

YAY! I think you will really love this FF as you go along and see what it does for overall health, feed conversion and laying. I'll never go back to regular feed now..this is saving me too much money and keeping my chickens so well, I couldn't imagine not doing this.

They ALWAYS want to use the same nests. I have two nests only right now and they all will wait on just ONE. All the eggs in one nest. I make it interesting by switching their eggs over to the less favored nest and mess with their little birdy brains.

Won't be long now before all those nests have a bird in them and you will get such a glow in your heart when you see all nests occupied when you go in there...it's such a sweet picture and the epitome of FARM to see all those red combs peaking out of yellow bedding.

lol @ you switching the eggs to the other nest.

Thanks they are hatchery partridge rocks. My first hens I got last year. They were kicked out of the coop for the day as I treated for mites. They didn't like the temporary nest box I put outside so they all waited till I opened the pop door. Hence the reason these 2 were in the same box. Apparently mrs green was taking to long to lay and black wanted in :)

Every day at least one other pullet gets in the nest with my pullet that is setting on eggs and lays another egg for her. I had hers all marked in pencil but she had rolled them around so much the marks had all disappeared, had to remark them. When do y'all remove the hen/chicks from the rest of the flock? Before they hatch out? Or do you leave them???
