HELP!Is anyone here (did a quick search, and my memory also came up zilch) making their FF with beer yeast? I mean, it would work on one level, but wouldn't you have alcohol production, and that seems like not such a good plan? Maybe if you did 24 hour batches, and fed everything out, and didn't use the scoby? Asking 'cause I have a friend who started, but just found out they are using beer yeast. Made my heart rate go 90 sitting still. I hope it's OK, but?? I sent them a note suggesting UPACV or LAB instead, and then came running over here, hoping to find my moment of panic is not needed, BUT... ?![]()
Ha. Ha. Ha. Now I just have to find out if he's starting fresh, or using scoby. If using the backslop, he should be ok, if not, I think I'd still be worried about the beer thing. Those yeasts are cultivated just to make grains make alcohol... I'm sure there's a 'curve' out there that one of our brewing friends would know about.Chill pill, baby girl!It won't hurt the birds and any alcohol sugars produced will be consumed by the vinegar yeasts this mix pulls from the air. I'm not familiar with beer yeast but I'm sure it will be fine and there is nothing so bad in that bucket that time will not fix. Just tell them to feed it as per usual and everything will adjust itself before long and as the stuff ferments. The LABs will establish all on their own and the acetobacter will establish if they leave the mix open to air and stir it and all will be well with the FF.![]()
No harm, no fowl....get it? No fowl!I slay myself....![]()
