Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

oh, funny thing...

I sold 5 pullets a while back. They are now back for a short time while their new owner is on vacation. When i let them out of the crate i immediately saw a difference in the size of them compared to the couple girls i kept. Mine looked bigger/fuller in the body than the others. now this could just be genetics but one of My girls is actually kind of runty and the other is 'sister' to one i kept and both still looked heavier than the girls that I am 'chicken sitting'.

I have found both oregano and thyme at the dollar store. Try there, it's WAY better than $6 for a small jar!
I buy all my spices in bulk at our semi local coop. Much fresher and a whole lot cheaper too. But I will totally try BJ's and the dollar store as well and see if it's cheaper. Hopefully my oregano survived the winter (this is something like my third year trying to get it to overwinter) and takes off so I can dry my own!

I have 2 of my neighbors birds that she culled out of her flock because they were scrawny.I wanted to try an experiment with FF and all the other goodies so I took them in and voilla...I.found the same results as you did, mine are larger and brighter than their sister flock! Yay for us! LOL

To those that format their FF on the thick side does it still bubble? I have some started with crumbles, hot water, and Braggs ACV but no bubbles...

It depends on how old the ferment is and also how hot the water was that you used. The live bacteria in the vinegar can't take scalding water. Water on the hotter side of warm is probably as hot as you want to go as it will cool when you pour it into your bucket of feed.

Give it a few days and yes it will still bubble if it is wet. If you put in too much water and it is dry, it won't bubble.

Mine will bubble when I stir it. And I use Braggs ACV with Mother in it. When I add a lot of feed and water I tend to sit it next to the wood stove to give it a kick start with the heat.

I had a few patches of fuzzy mold on top that I removed and threw away. I added a touch more hot water and ACV. When I stir I get bubbles but not when it's just sitting.
