Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Oh boy! Last night we had a heavy frost, got down in the 20's. (It's 35 now.) The new coop/run has a metal roof and it is dripping in the coop AND out in the open run, condensation all over it! And dang it, I wanted it all covered so it would be dry! Any suggestions???

Caulking between the overlapping metal sheets will keep it out of the middle, but for the condensation you'll have to put something under the roofing to catch the drips. Can't think of a way to do that. Tarp the whole affair until warm enough for a permanent solution. I know that's not what you want to do. Smarter people out there?? :(

I imagine most people would think that I live like at least a semi-hermit. And yep, I like it too. I do all my "computering" on my cell phone. Phone and computer all in one package and that anywhere anytime thing, perdy nice. Sometimes when I get bored I just think, "Hmmm what do I want to know...?" then I start Googling. I can just get carried away with all the information that's out there on pretty much anything. Then sometimes if I am feeling a little down and need a laugh I go to YouTube and search for something funny and always end up laughing. lol Oh... and talking to people all over the world - that is so cool!

Hey, What constitutes a hermit? Don't you have to be solitary? Bee, don't you have a DH and kids or other family around??

Quote: Reminds me of the silage fed to the dairy cattle . . . . reminds me of good times in school. It is a sour smell, slightly different than sour dough bread to my nose, but close!

Quote: I wish he was still on TV, as an exercise guru!! I don't juice as I eat the whole fruit, whole veg, you get the idea. Braggs is fast and easy. I have tried adding braggs to juice and I don't get very far, or at least it is not as rich as Braggs.

Let us know how the process works for you-- with your experience you may do much better than I did!!

I hate snow & cold. Makes me down right miserable, my body simply lets me know when its below 72 degrees...in every painful way possible lol
But I do love taking pics and it sure is pretty to *look at lol

Chicks have hit the 1lb mark. They're crazy active still too, bit unexpected lol but good!

I lost a lot of weight and below 70 does feel cold!!! Ihave found that my body and joint feel and do better when I drop the sugar foods and most other high carb foods. THe change in diet proved to be well worth the overall: sleep better, can challenge my kids to a race, less creaky, lol. As soon as I start back on the old way of eating, getting out of a chair is slow and rickety!! lol

Kids were excited for the first snow of the season yesterday!!

Quote: I like having the cell because all the phone booths are gone. ANd I can call the coach when my child seems to be AWOL. Has given me a great sense of peace in case of an emergency. I don't use it very often-- and buy minutes via a card. Easy.

How much FF do you offer per layer each day? I can never figure out how much I should give. They free range all day, but still clear the bowl no matter how much I put out. Do you offer more in the winter?

I can see somebody liked the Golden Girls. LOL

It sounds like you are doing good. It usually has a sour smell or sometimes smells like sourdough bread. I've even heard some describe it as smelling like vomit. lol Right now mine smells really good, like sweet apples. What all do you have in the batch for your quail? If your feed has any meat in it they say it can smell bad. I'm not sure but I believe most game bird feeds do have meat in them.
i just have their crumble going for my quail and it does have meat in it but has yet to smell bad it just smells abit sour...glad to know the sour is an ok thing

Well it's not leaking. Condensation is the problem. I hope it was just a fluke because of the weather.
