Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I've never had any difficulty palpating the next day's egg when doing it from within the bird. One doesn't even have to insert the fingertip very far at all before feeling the egg through the intestinal wall. That's the only way I've ever found that is 100% fail proof on detecting an egg layer or a nonlayer.

Now, now...BUD was the only one that got a little harder tap than I usually give. Usually they just get a lot of sound and surprises so that they get pretty jumpy around humans and look over their shoulder for the rest of their natural chickeny lives.

All this talk about pickled eggs, I'm going to have to make a special trip to town just for white vinegar and beets! Got some jalapenos... but could use some more. hehe I'm with Jes, going to make a hot batch as well as a sweet/sour batch. I remember years ago there was a "boiled egg diet". I guess you could do a pickled egg diet...? Might need some "BeanO" so you could stand to be around yourself. hahaha I've got a feeling there could be a demand for some good pickled eggs.

Thanks Kassaundra. They are actually considerably larger than they appear in these pitiful pics. In this batch, I've noticed either 7 or 8 that no bow tie or just a feather on each side.

I need to sit down, read the directions and get this darned cam. working! Thanks again!!!

At this point in my life I've had my hands up so many butts that a chicken's butt is the easiest one of all.

This is how I ddo my lazy jalapenos and peppers!

Jes and TW,  Try the lazy lady's way.  I save all pickle and olive leftover vinegar and put boiled eggs in the jars. Also eat the jarred or canned pickled beets and put eggs in that leftover juice as well.  Not enough liquid?  Add water and vinegar and taste.  Add salt and sugar to taste.  The manufacturers put cloves in theirs so add some too if you like.  Just what I do and the longer you leave them the better they taste!   : )

And in keeping with the spirit of the the thread, all but the RIRs have been on FF for the past three+ months.
I still have about 4 or 5 gallons left and might continue with it after all. Even though the RIR's just got started with it,
they jumped right in and seem to have no problems with it.

Still don't know how long they will be here but I'm getting used to them. Nice birds!

I bought some eggs from an Amish lady back before mine started laying. They have RIR, nice big dark brown eggs! But the eggs weren't that great because I'm sure they just feed dry feed and she said they were penned. But they did look nice and I bet would be really good eggs if on ff and allowed some free ranging time.
