Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Never let anyone convince you that they know more about something like raising chickens than you do! They may know a lot more about raising chickens THEIR way... But there is so much to learn about raising and keeping and breeding even a SINGLE breed of a single species of animal that one could not learn it all in a lifetime! Not even people who have been keeping chickens forever and a day it seems know all there is to know and learn new things all the time. Go with your gut and if it turns out wrong, you know better for the next time! And even then that won't make your experiences and knowledge correct for someone else. ;3 Just do what works best for you!

Thank you Chocolate Mouse! I know I know, sad right? Next time I will know or at least come here and ask first.

Yeah, Hooray for you, Rosemarie! Good job and all that flattery! He was a pretty roo, naked and down to the bone. This was your first chicken to butcher, right? I hope I do so well when its my turn. : )
Yes Beverly it was. I was just so blown away by his color because of the chickens in the store being sooooooooo pale in color. Just haven't seen one like this before. The color of the meat made me think of deer meat and I just had to take a pic of it to share. I STILL can't believe it. I tasted of him to and he IS good! What flavor and so fresh and clean tasting. I just did a sample of him. We haven't ate any yet but the sample. lol Oh you will. you'll do good!

Ohhh how I wish I lived anywhere near West Virginia! Or that I was rich and could round up all these good gals in my private plane and we'd all go see Bee! Wouldn't that be the coolest thing? Can't you just imagine what fun we'd have? I sometimes wonder what I'd do if I ever won the lottery or the Publishers Clearing House thing. Now I know! One can dream. : )
Chocolate mouse thank you!!! oh and that rabbit DOES SOUND yummy! I used to fry them just like you would fry chicken. THEN put it in a deep iron skillet and pour BQ sauce over it and just simmer it with a lid on. You talk about some good stuff. oh my gosh! YUMMMMMM

oh now THAT would be sooooo much fun! I hear ya, about the dreaming. I do it to. We'd all have to invest in some depends because Bee would have us laughing so hard we'd pee in our pants.

Hi there ladies (and gents). I see a lot of you have been all productive lately. Sounds good!

@RoseMarie... great job on that roo! Was he an Aussie or a RIR? My Aussies that I processed were real dark meat like that. The taste reminded me of game meat. How did you cook him or how are you going to cook him? I hope he is finger lickin' good!

@Chocolate Mouse... that rabbit sounds good too, sauce and all! Have you ever heard of a black or black/white NZ meat rabbit? I wonder if they are as good as the white or if it makes a difference. I wonder about the reds too. How much should NZ breeders weigh??? I've got wabbits on my mind!
TW he was a RIR. I pressure cooked him and man that broth is to die for. It's soooo pretty and dark. We haven't eaten him yet though. Going to make my own B Q sauce to cook him in some more. He's falling apart already so I wont be able to cook him very long. lol

I can only imagine! I've often thought of how neat it would be to have a small working farm that was only horse drawn and hand operated machinery, lay out a camp ground with electric hookups near the barn and have working showers and restrooms in one part of the barn, have several times a year when people come to help with the planting or harvest, camp out, eat foods raised on the farm, take away things I'd made by hand there, relax, listen to music, sit out by the campfire and to learn how to farm in old fashioned ways~milk a cow, tend a sheep, process chickens, put up hay, harness and work a horse. I even had the place picked out and was set to rent it, for I could not afford such a place...but, alas, a fishing club offered the owner way more than I could for rent. It was just the most perfect place for it!
ah Bee it sure sounds like a heavenly place! Sounds like you had some very nice dreams to. Always fun sharing with others.

LindaB, please give your daughter a BIG hug for me. I had to deal with Hospice three separate times in my life. They are awesome people to work with!

If I remember correctly, you can get your buckets free from WalMart. Go to the bakery and ask for their empty icing buckets. Whatever you decide to use, give yourself plenty of room for the ff to rise. Good luck! (Don't forget to give us pictures of your babies)

Lisa :)
TexasLisa yes they are! Angels here on earth they are! I/we had one with our uncle Sept. was a year ago and I tell you she was awesome! Great woman and just helped me sooo much. I tell everybody they are angels on earth.
