Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

@Sonjanz... Are you torturing your poor son? hahahaha Too funny! Eat some fermented sourkraut - he will love you then. LOL

That sounds like a REALLY neat place you live on! Can I come visit for a year or two. lol I am a big goat fan. I don't have any right now but when I do get more they will definitely get fermented feed and water.

Yeah I believe we forget sometimes that a lot of other people are reading this. I imagine it is pretty funny at times. lol I HOPE you will stick around and teach us about what all you are doing.

Have a great day & God bless you and yours!

well after a very frank and honest discussion here amongst family, after reading about personal bombs being dropped and me saying i was tempted to strain some FF liquid for myself to drink ad enjoy some good health benefits my 21 yr old son suggested i just drink ACV by the gallon,he reckons i need it, he of course releases pre deodorised ones!! :) :)
This board has given my family many laughs and lots of discussions since i started reading.
Bee, we live on what is here called a station, its 3000 acres in size and we raise beef and sheep for market and breed both. i have my own mini farm off to the side whee i raise dairy goats, poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys) for our consumption. I use as many natural ways as i can and the health of my own livestock is always a good indicator of whats going on out in the paddock. My husband farms conventionally to a very high standard and is always interested in what i do.
i have discovered some many misconceptions about goats and realise many people do not undertand how there systems work or the dietary requiremnts but they also do not want to know...it easier to be ignorant. i even have vets refer people to me.

I've always wanted to go to NZ and Australia! It's amazing to me how big the farms/stations are there and how much managing must go into them. I'm so glad you've joined us here and I think we can glean much wisdom from your experience....and maybe have some laughs at the same time!

Here's a funny clip from my own family....my first grand kid, at a week old....pay close attention to my boy's conversation and sound effects behind the cooing of the grandma and watch for the baby's facial expressions. It says it all and this is what I've had to deal with all these years.....if I thought the FF liquid would help here I would tranq these guys and tube it down their throats!

Well ladies and gents. We just spent 48 hours putting in the new deep litter in my run and raised garden beds in my back yard. Back breaking work to say the least but the girls are on two feet of fresh woodchips now. Mostly pine this year. The old deep litter was SOOOO full of earthworms! They chickens feasted as I moved the old bedding about my lawn to start raising it above the local water table (which is quite high as all the lawns in the area flood and it used to be natural Wetlands).

After hours of backbreaking work hauling literal tons of dirt around, what better way to end the night but with my last FF roaster from last fall? 5.5 lbs of glorious, white, healthy chicken stuffed with potatoes and chorizo sausage!!! Yuuum!

Cant wait to post a couple quick photos of the new raised beds tomorrow. They look AMAZING!

CM... since you got that all done, you wanna come here today??? LOL I can't wait to see the pics! How are your rabbits doing?

I've got so many things to do this spring and I'm so far behind right now that I think I'm first! Dibs on the Mighty Mouse.

Good morning! I purchased me chicks on March 9. I believe they probably hatched on March 3rd. That would make them 5 weks old today. I moved them to my grow out pen yesterday. High 60's during the day and low 40's at night. I have the heat lamp in a corner, and the dog igloo for shelter. They were exhausted from the move and most of them missed dinner. They just didn't get up to eat. This morning they were still sleeping when I filled their feeder. I am hoping they all get enough to eat today untilmwe get home from work. In the move we spotted one with a bad leg. He sems to get around ok, but a little smaller than the rest. His foot is turned in under his body with the leg poking out to the side. He gets jostled around a bit, but he is one of the ones that ate dinner last night. Hopefully he will hold together for the next month or so. Several others have crooked toes. I also had to transition my ff to a larger system. I still need to get new pics going!

Mine got like that after intro to new adults My family decided to take on a moving problem for friends and they had not spent the time I did with mine.
It was hard for it not to rub off on them as the new guys freaked out with human contact. They are all gone now. And since I am a late nighter I have started spending time in the coop when they roost for the night I talk to them and touch them hold them and sometimes I even bring them in the house for a treat and to make sure all is right with them. It is making a HUGE difference in them fairly quickly.
LindaB want me to share this funny story. Be careful "tjo" or the same thing could happen to you! I kept back 5 chicks from one of my winter hatches and darn if 4 of them didn't turn into roos. I placed one and figured I'd sell the rest as I had no trouble selling the roos from the previous hatch. But they were purebreds and drop dead gorgeous. So to make these more sellable or placable at least, I decided to make them "sweet" where they wouldn't chase ones kids, etc. So I handle them a lot and make a fuss over them and they sit in my lap and talk to me. Well, they started doing the wing dance all around my feet. I thought it was funny until the other day one of them grabbed a hold of my jeans leg made love toy foot! I had rooster cum on my toes! I am old and thought it best to view this philosophically.......that it is nice that there is someone who still finds me attractive! : )

Get some tape and a couple of match sticks and straighten that baby's leg. It will heal in a week or two and be fine. I did that when I was 8 to a duck I won a a carnaval when it fell out of the back of my shirt and was hit by the screen door which broke its leg. The crooked toes can probably be fixed the same way. Baby's bones are kinda mostly cartialge and can be manipulated into the right direction without too much work and heal quickly. Certainly worth a try before having to cull later when it gets picked on for being lame.

Something is not right here......there should never be a time when young birds miss dinner and don't get up to eat. Then to sleep through another meal? Something is not right. I'd turn off that heat lamp as they don't need it for those temps and for that age of birds. Keep an eye on these birds....if they are that lethargic and at that age, I'd be worried about coccidiosis.

Turning off the heat may help..it could be that they are just too hot. Let us know how they go along?
