Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Sounds about when I started my birds on the free range too. I've raised 2 goslings on the 20% and many ducks on it as well. Only this last batch had it also fermented. So far I haven't seen any angel wing. I do agree that there is probably a genetic component involved. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures and checking on how to bandage if it showed up, but so far all my birds have had no problem. I plan on having goslings this spring and once again I will be worrying and watching for any signs of the angel wing, particularly with the available protein boost of the ff. It is impossible to say how much the high protein plays in this versus the genetics. Thanks for the very clear pictures of the before and after. Your geese are beautiful! It is really nice to see that the bandaging really works should it become necessary.
You just have to catch it at the right time! The breeder walked me through all the steps. He usually gets one a year that has it. This doesn't hurt the geese anyway, but it looks awful, and they can't be shown.

Rosa is the prettier one as well. She is more full in the keel and has a bigger dewlap, so I am really happy I caught it just in time :yesss:

Such good information. Today I finally took the plunge and started some sprouting feed (oops different forum) for the winter. It will be interesting to see how that goes....

I haven't read the "sprouting" thread but I DO sprout my whole grains rather than ferment them. I keep the fermenting for the mash and some sprouts going all the time (I just sprout to the "little tail" stage then throw them out for them to pick up off the ground.)

Ugh, when i first found byc, i was staying up half the night, couldn't stop reading! Now i sneak in and get my "fix" several times a day hehe!
I pretty much have it pulled up most the time, then i don't lose my spot.

I spent the day out of the house on Tuesday, and when I came home there was 106 posts on the Gnarly Bunch and 36 on this one. The funny thing, I wasn't even surprised.
