Hi. I've been fermenting feed for my flock of 4 for about a month. They really like it and I find there is less waste.
I make a new batch everyday. One days worth at a time. I usually feed it to them on day #3.
I use mason jars with the lid on loose. Basically just setting on the top, not screwed on.
I recently read that you can speed up the fermenting process by using some of the remaining water from a previous batch.
However the past 2 days I've noticed this film floating on the water. Is this mold?? If not, what is it and is it safe to continue to stir, drain, and feed to my chickens?
