I read that bracken fern is too dangerous to feed to any farm animal, but how do we get to eat fiddle heads in the spring? Are any of the ferns ok to eat for chickens??

Found on internet but hope it helps. tells you what it contains and that it is poinsonus
"BRACKEN FERN, BRAKE FERN (Pteridium sp.); fronds; plant contains thiaminase.

Thank you--- that is all I could find too about the bracken fern. . . .. left me concerned about the other ferns. ???

With some sleuthing we have decided the most prevolent fern here is Lady Fern. Now to find out how poisonous it is. Our sheep eat it.

My chickens LOVE ferns! I never thought they'd be poisonous. Guess I'll have to do some research on what type we have. I know one type is called cinnamon stick.

Cinnamon stick is very lovely, with the tall stick of cinnamon.

Braken fern so far is the only named fern that is listed as poisonous.
