Hi,

I hope this is the right place to post this question. We have 4 hens and our roo was killed 2 weeks ago, but he had mated with some of the girls. Now in the last week we have gotten a couple of eggs (the first one broke

). I'm wondering if they are fertile and how long would the eggs of our hens stay fertile? I see a dark spot the size of a dime inside the egg that moves when we move the egg, but really have no idea what I'm looking for

hope this makes sense, I'm so new to this, but love'n it

thanks, Kat

I think its up to 3 weeks after maiting the hen can hole the goods from the rooster... but once the eggs are laid its best to get them in the bator asap

Good fertility remains for up to 2 weeks after the removal of a rooster. Some fertility (at a decreasing rate) may remain as long as 4 weeks after a roosters removal.
