I have a friend at work that had barred rock chickens. ( 3 roosters and 15 hens) he sells the eggs at work and stores them in the fridge. How long will they be fertile for. can I put the eggs from the fridge into my incubator or would that kill the eggs. It will be hard for him to bring them in fresh for me cause we don't live close to the office and not there each day. I have hatched eggs before and had 3 of 12 hatch and want to try again and really want to gethis eggs cause I like the breed he has and cant get them from our hatchery here.

I put 11 eggs from a friend who kept them in the fridge. 2 hatched. It is not the best condition but it can work.

The reason for me, that the hatch rate was so low, was it was the first time using that incubator. 8 made it to lock-down. I would do it again. Good Luck!

A broody hen stores them in a nest until she gets enough to sit on....not a fridge, not in an enclosed carton. If I were needing to store for someone else I'd put them in a cardboard box of earth covered with hay or leaves, in a concave nesting, and make sure they were not rolling around any during transport, then I'd place that box in a cool, dim area. Broody hens have the highest hatch rate of any of us.
