fertile egg's won't grow or hatch?

I have a broody hen. she has been laying on the 15 eggs for 25 days now. and still laying on them strong. today she broke 2 ((17 eggs before 2 were broke). they were green and not developed much. I'm not sure if they are alive or not because the egg's are dark brown. This is my first time having a broody hen as well. please help!?!? could it be because my Rooster is a Rode Island Red, and my other hens are brahama's?

Or she has too many to cover. Get a very bright flashlight and candle those eggs, look for veins and dark spots where the babies are. Any eggs that are clear toss me out. Usually broodies hatch eggs early.

At this point, I'd assume none are viable. It's possible that your Brahmas have too much fluff covering their tushies to allow the roo to hit the target. Or your roo could not be fertile. Or the nutrition of your flock is lacking.

At twenty-five days, I'd give up on that hatch, assess her body condition, and either get her peeps or give her new eggs. You could also try breaking her.

I usually give first-timers only half a dozen eggs so that they can cover them all.

Sounds like you have too many eggs under your hen. I always put a dozen under a hen.

im sure my chickens are healthy. they are free roamers. maybe i do have too many eggs under her. i'm just goingto crack open all the eggs at this point and check them all out. all my other chickens went broody at the same time as her except my one australope. they still have not come out of that state. i cut her feathers around her vent and around his butt too. The flashlight method doesn't work after the chicks start growing. i tried my phone flashlight it works the best but still hard to determine what is growing, what is not, what is dead, what is alive. i have only seen 1 chick move it's feet but nothing else from the others.

I do believe my rooster is fertile though because when i crack open eggs to eat i see the little spot in almost every egg. isn't that were the chick begins? not the white, that looks like a little "umbilicolcord'? (im not the bestt speller)

The best time to candle is between day 7 and 14. You must have a very dark room, a very strong flashlight, with new batteries, and candle from the aircell end of the egg. I can even view enough inside of my blues and greens to discern life.

yea. almost every egg i go to cook has that. i was hoping i could have a batch of chicks. but i think i might get another rooster, my other rooster got ate by a fox.
