Hi all,

My broody is on day 7 of hopefully her first hatch.

I am also on my first time trying to hatch eggs.

Today I used a Brinsea Ovascope to see if the eggs are fertile. I believe all 5 are but wanted to check with people a lot more experienced than I am!

Attached are photos of the 5 eggs in the Ovascope. I took the photos using my iPhone camera so apologies for the quality.

Please can you let me know if any/all are fertile? And please let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,

Alex

On day 7 I would expect a lot more veins, not seeing much here. But maybe it's just the pics. Did you see the "spider webs" of veins when candling?
Thanks for the reply!

I can't say I noticed any veins. I wasn't really too sure what to look for. I did candle an unfertilised egg as well for comparison and I thought it was a good sign that the supposedly fertile eggs had a lot of shadowing in comparison.

I have attached a pic of the unfertilised egg in the Ovascope as well.

What should I do next?

Thanks,

Alex

So i don't think i can be of much help as in working on my frist hatch as well, we are at day 16 or 17 with 1 egg (gave her 2, 1 gotten broken).

By the looks of what i saw trying to candle mine throughout the process, and lots of research, your second is the only 1 I might question but it could just be the position too. Overall there isn't anything the screams bad egg in any of the pics and it deffinatly looks like there is at least some development in all 5. Good luck on your hatch

Pics aren't the best. I would maybe wait until day 9-10 and try again. Colored eggs can be hard to tell sometimes.
Thanks, I'll try again in a few days! They're light Sussex eggs, so light brown in colour.

Thank you! I'm glad none of them look bad to you and good luck with your hatch too!

None are showing development from the pictures, but it's easier for you to tell. So if you compared them to the pictures on the link, and it wasn't looking good, then they probably aren't viable.

You can wait a few days and candle again to make sure they're not good if you want. Honestly, though, there's not really much - if any - hope that they've got live chicks. Sorry. :(
