Fertile or infertile?

Hello all,

We are on Day 3 1/2, I can’t tell if these guys are infertile, aren’t progressing or are on track. What do you all think?
First time incubating quail eggs here, thanks!!

The first picture is one that has been in the incubator and the second is one that has not been incubated at all.

The photos attached above seem like there’s a huge difference between the two but here’s another photo of an egg that has not been incubated .

You aren't going to be able to tell if a non-incubated egg is fertile or not by candling.

3.5 days is early for candling, but it looks like you have some development, so I would guess fertile. Check again when it's been in the incubator for a week. By that time you should be able to see veins and maybe even some movement.

Thank you! I inserted the photos of the egg that hasn’t been incubated for comparison! Should’ve cleared that up better. Anyways, I’ll candle them again at 7 days!

This is a link to an everyday candling of quail eggs. Ours look nearly as developed as the day 3 in this egg. Do you know why that is?

You said that the one in the incubator has been there for 3 days, right? The pictures in that article are really clear. Normally when I'm candling, at least, I don't get that nice a view into the egg. I don't see a lot of difference between day 0 and day 4. By day 5 I can usually see veins and some development. To be honest, I don't bother candling before day 5 at the earliest just because I'm not sure if I'm looking at the yolk or seeing development before then.
