Fertile?

How many days after chicken mate will there be a fertile eggs. How will I know if it’s fertile. I have a road island red also that mated with the rooster but it won’t sit on the egg. What should I do?

I've read that eggs are fertile for several days after mating. She won't set an egg though until she is ready and even then that doesn't guarantee fertility. Usually a hen will lay a clutch of eggs before setting.

Because she has had unfertile eggs before we had the rooster and never sat on them.

You either need to find a broody hen or get an incubator.
