If they are weeping/seeping/sappy - people seem to call it different things, that usually means they have a bacterial infection and the pressure is forcing the contents out of the egg and they are rotten, a lot of times they do smell.

Tell them this. So they know for next time.

She just found it today. she found it in a secret nest (they free range) and she found it cold and dirty and she took it in to candle it
