Fertility and Roosters

Actually I believe Meyers does have true Am's.
One of the few(only?) that doesn't use CYA verbiage in their descriptions...and advertises Easter Eggers as Easter Eggers not Am's.
Their Blue Am description also includes a reasonable caveat about blue genetics not always breeding true.

Yeah that's what I thought they gave a really desription and even mentioned a pea comb but he clearly doesn't have that. He is not molting either he's not even a year old yet. So that's a little disappointing. I paid for an Ameraucana not an EE so that is frustrating. Oh well I will still get some blue chicks I'm sure and he probably still has the blue or green egg laying gene id guess because his legs are blue grey

Well my first thought was why do you want to do two different batches at all? With those two breeds of roosters, why not put them both in with the hens and just collect the eggs? You should be able to tell by the chicks who the father is. Orpington would have straight comb, the blue rooster should have a piea comb. But looking at the Picture of the blue rooster he has a straight comb so that throws that off. But his babies should still have muffs and/or a beard so you would be able to tell his chicks from the Orpington's chicks.

However the blue egg gene is not tied to leg color at all. It is closely linked genetically to the pea comb. So your bird having a straight comb, has a lower chance of having the blue egg gene himself, so his daughters have a lower chance of laying greenish eggs. I guess what you have to do is just test breed them and see. But since it sounds like you're planning on keeping the pullets for breeding back next year, I would not worry about separating the roosters and doing two batches. I would just put the roosters with the hens you want as long as the roosters get along OK and not worry about it. If the roosters do not get along OK I would just put one rooster in with them for say a week or however long it takes to collect as many eggs as you want to hatch from that rooster and then put the next rooster in and collect eggs from him for maybe two weeks. You might wait a week in between just to clear out more of the first roosters sperm. Otherwise you would potentially get a lot more chicks from the first rooster then the second rooster. But I don't see why you would want to wait a cleansing period For the hens.
