Fertility and Roosters

Could you please post a photo of your Orpington rooster? Let’s just cover that base.

It’s not hard to introduce a mature rooster to mature hens. There may be a scuffle between the rooster and the dominant hen. Usually not but there could be. It’s usually not that bad if it does happen. A mature rooster to mature hens is about as easy as it gets.

When you put two mature roosters together with hens around, they are almost certainly going to fight. Sometimes that is a fight to the death. Usually not but sometimes. What usually happens is that one of them decides he’s better off running away instead of continuing to fight. There may be a rematch or to, but usually they work out which us dominant and work together to take care of the flock.

An important part if this is that the loser has room to run away and get away. If the loser doesn’t have enough room to run away and get away, the winner doesn’t know he won. He thinks the other is still challenging him so he keeps attacking. This is often when it turns deadly.

Another risk is that one gets injured in that initial fight. They have absolutely no mercy. If one gets injured the other can just keep on until it kills the injured bird.

If you have enough room you can usually put two roosters together with your hens, but they will almost certainly fight. There is risk involved. The less room, the more risk.

Yes, that's a Lavender Orpington...

Hmmm... one of your 'Barred Rock' hens, on the other side of him, looks like she has beard and muffs???

Lol yeah it does it's not a barred rock. It's an EE from my barred rock rooster and EE hens last year. Have a couple that are barred with muffs and beards really like them though.
