Fertility duration..

If I have 2 different roosters with my hens & I took the 1 out that I didn't want to breed from. How long before
all the eggs are fertilised by the rooster that I want to breed from?

Hens can retain high fertility for up to 2 weeks after the removal of a rooster, some fertility up to three weeks, and occasional fertility up to four weeks. Odds are that after two weeks eggs would be fertilized by the desired rooster assuming that he is fertile and covering all of the hens in the flock.

Ok thankyou for the info. sourland. It's only been 3 days since I extracted the unwanted rooster & put him with a different lot of hens.

I have heard a lot of breeders use a full 30 day withdrawal period to assure fertility is from the desired rooster, just to be sure...

This would guarantee that the chicks are sired by the desired rooster.
