One bag of my feed is 19% crude protein and the other is 20%. Is this enough?

Is it because the animal protein was replaced with soy? I've read that soy can have a negative impact on fertility.

ADM Alliance and Faithway feeds still contain animal protein from porcine products. In my local area, they sell a 22% layer pellet, but there is a 16% layer called Pride & Pleasure from Faithway that still contains animal protein. I like the feeds as they are basically dust free, skinny pellets, and overall excellent quality.
It could be the soy, but I've heard conflicting reports on that. Some people are going out of their way to avoid the soy based feeds because of what they've read, as daunting as finding any with animal protein in them.

I find it interesting that the Purina website does NOT list the ingredients. They only tell you about the special ingredients that they are using to sell the various feeds. I'm sorry, but I don't trust a company that doesn't spell it all out for the consumer . . . is there a better label on the bag? Does it just lump proteins together and not tell the source?

The full ingredient label is on the bag of feed. Most feed sites do not list ingredients on the site since they do not sell feed from the web site.

Yes, Purina is a soy-based feed, although I believe its gamebird feeds have animal protein in them, as does their Country Acres label.

It (along with several other experiences I have had) confirms my opinion of soy.

The majority of feeds have soy as the protein source. It is still realtively cheap and also poses the least amount of risk (aside from speculation). I have heard several arguments regarding the potential dangers of soy. I believe that some may have a little validity to them while other claims are simply ridiculous. Unfortunately, the majority of us do not have the choices available to choose different protein sources. Even if those brands are available to us it can be very costly to feed them. I doubt I am alone in having to tighten my belt due the horrible state of the economy right now and $3 more per bag can start adding up quickly!

Richard, you are definitely not alone in having to conserve $$$. I'd love to feed them the best of the best, and they do get high quality feeds, but they do contain soy as well as animal proteins. I'll be lucky if I don't have to turn them out into the woods to find all their own food for themselves, the way the economy is going. There is what is best to do, then there is what we have to do.
