I see a lot of fertilized eggs for sale online and on facebook and I feel like an idiot for even asking but how does that even work??? Do they just collect the eggs and leave them at room temperature, and so they neither develop or die? How long does an egg stay viable after collection, but before being incubated??

Yes. It depends on the storage conditions (temp, humidity, fluctuation, and turning)... hatch-ability does decrease with time..

Did I already share my favorite hatching resource with you...

Looks like your question may be answered best between pages 12-21.

Careful buying hatching eggs... some diseases DO pass to the embryo. I still recommend only NPIP sources.
