My husband bought fertilizer for our back yard and I'm REALLY angry! We have chickens and goats that graze that area daily, and I'm trying to get it thru his thick head that fertilizer is poisonous for my pet buds! Can anyone confirm this or am I wrong? What about ant killer? I just lost my 2nd hen this afternoon to something unknown and I really need to confirm the truth. Thanks.
P.S. He didn't put it down yet thank goodness.

Yes! I'm pretty sure it is poisonous if they actually eat the pellets. It should be ok to turn then out in a day or two, after it has soaked into the ground. Sorry about the mystery deaths. I've been having something horrible going through my flock and I can't figure it out.

Well I found out last night that he had sprayed weed killer in the rock gardens where my hens peck around every day. Oatie, the one that died yesterday was a crooked beak bird that I kept alive for almost 2 yrs with oatmeal mash. She came running to me from the garden and once inside the coop she started whining and acted like she was going to lay an egg so I put her in the nest. Came back later to find an egg and a dead Oatie. Two months ago same exact thing with Oatie's sister who was a large healthy bird. No signs of distress other than about 30 minutes or less of acting like they were in pain. As if that wasn't enough, now the idiot wants to put down fertilizer and we have 5 dogs, 2 goats and now 6 chickens who are on the lawn daily.
No way can we keep them off for 2-3 days.

I've sprayed weed killer before with no ill effects. I would make sure it is dry though.. And I'm NOT saying that the weed killer wasn't the culprit. Sorry for your losses. Just tell him he doesn't need fertilizer with all the special poops they leave you!!!
