Fertilizer Question

My husband is wanting to fertilize our yard. We have one 1 week old and 4 week old back ducklings.

Is it safe to fertilize?

What are you using to fertilize? If it's compost... Sure! Go ahead! If it's anything else, you can fertilize, but I'd keep the ducks off of it for a few days and give it a chance to absorb and the blades of grass to rinse off. Most lawn fertilizers give a recommendation of time away from pets. Does yours say anything about it?
