So happy you were able to rebuild that Chantecler line.
Good luck.

Alas,

I am down to one known quality Chantecler hen. W2 is sub par both stature and colour - he has yellow tints.

Am still searching for a good cockerel.

My birds have been from Cackle, and once in a while an off colored leg appears here too. The hatchery mentioned about 50% fertility, also my experience in limited hatches. This year, with AI, we haven't either ordered chicks, or hatched at home. MAYBE if the AI settles down, there's still time...

The Chantecler was developed early 1900s over a ten year period by a Trappist monk who did his work in Hudson Quebec 100 kilometers from where I live. It is particularly well suited to Canadian winters, is dual purpose, 200 ish very light beige eggs per year, calm demeanor.

love your white flock! we were only able to find Partridge Chantecler in our area, but so far they have been a delight to watch grow and we hope they’re a big part of our dual purpose meat flock. I mostly loved that they were a Canadian breed!
