fertilizing?

This is our first fall w/ our duck and we need to fertilize our lawn. How long do we have to keep him off of it? How do you guys go about fertilizing w/ your duckies around?

I just fertilized the yard today and didn't even think about the ducks eating the fertilizer. Oh well. I'm not too concerned about them eating it. Ferilizer smells and tastes terrible (don't ask how I know that).
