Few Of New Peachick

on the UPA forum Doug showed us photos of peach and cameo but unless they are side by side its is hard to tell much difference. I have seen peach in person, but again, unless they are side by side, its hard to tell a difference.

I was told peach came from breeding purple and cameo together.... but it may take a few generations.

The knowledge base is being updated in the members only section. Kevin, perhaps you and deerman could research the peach color genetics and post your information there?? Pretty Please

Oh Deerman those are so Beautiful

I just bought 2 young birds i don't know their age but they are fully feathered and the size of a Bantam
They are India Blue and are my first ever peacocks and whats the proper way to care for them?

How do i tell if they are male or female?
I'm excited to see them grow and mature how long before they get their beautiful feathers?
I was warned before i got them that they are very loud and make their sounds all day is this true or is that just lonely males?

Deerman, I'm interested in knowing, do you name any of your birds? I'm guessing with the amount you have probably no, but you never know.

Is it a genetic issue that causes the charcoal hens to not lay?
What colors are bred to make charcoal, if charcoal itself is sterile?
Just wondering...

Kev. thats a real good question, I have wonder the connection myself. The peach have come from both the purple and cameo lines.

Really?! I was aware of Peach popping out of Purples(try saying that fast ha) but this is first I am aware of peach out of cameo. I was wondering if purple was dominant over cameo but apparently neither.. are fully dominant over each other.. with Peach being the homozygous version of *both* purple and cameo. So for example a Purple split Cameo would still look normal purple.. Guess from above, Cameo split Purple still looks normal Cameo.

I did wonder if Peach was homozygous Purple and Cameo. In other species it's common to combine two different colors to make a "new" color. Often two dilute colors combine to make a even more diluted color.. which seemed to match Peach.

They would breed true anyways if they were homozygous cameo & purple.. I keep hoping someone would breed a Blue to Peach and then breed the sons to a Blue.. to see if they throw Purple, Cameo and Peach daughters. That would be the ultimate proof..

You did? I missed or forgot about it. I just asked on it last week.

Close your eyes, Kat! I never liked cameo either. (Like the look of Kat's cameo pieds though) So I don't have any.. otherwise might have tried mating cameo with my purples to see if I get peach eventually..

Thanks for the answer on this interesting topic. I have never seen peach in person so can't comment on their looks..

I really would love to.. unfortunately as you know.. peafowl require so much room(have limited room here) and take sooooo long to breed. Otherwise I probably would probably already be on it plus other test matings with various colors. I love genetic "work"! You can bet I've been thinking about the various ways of going around it in my mind though!

One way to be "really, really sure" would be breeding a pure blue to a peach hen and then breeding the sons to a pure blue and see what color daughters they produce. IF they produce purple, cameo and peach that would be the final proof peach is the combination of both cameo and purple.. But is anybody going to breed a mere blue to a peach..? Not too many would! LOL

lol Kevin... I was never crazy about cameo either.... but when Ricky Couples was offering his cameo silver pied chicks i fell in love... and bought 2 hens

They are 3 years old now and this is the first offspring I have gotten from them... they are in with a silver pied split to cameo male. So far from that pen I have hatched 2 white chicks, 2 cameo pied, and one cameo chick. I had a cameo silver pied baby but it died after a few days

These are my cameo silver pied hens. I think they are so elegant looking!
