All hasps and hinges have been liberally soaked with WD40.

Five gallon feeders have been filled halfway, don't fill them full since I spilled rainwater in one. Ouch.

I'll add some straw once it starts icing.

I suppose that I had been looking at the forecasted weather as mostly a nuisance, but the governors of NC and SC have already declared states of emergency, my church has canceled in-person services for Sunday (yay, Zoom church), and UNCA has canceled classes for Monday and Tuesday. And it’s only Thursday today.

I know that UNCA makes decisions on what the professors in Atmospheric Sciences/ Meteorology are seeing, but that’s pretty amazing that two states are already sounding the warning.

I brought Esther inside this evening, she was on a low roost this time.

After her meds Esther had a soak, only about ten minutes as the water was cooling down. I applied the coconut oil again in her vent area, then loosely wrapped her in a towel.

She started gobbling down some coconut oil (solid) that I had on a piece of wax paper, she ate quite a bit, then had a few pieces of grape...and beak-wiped my sweater.

And went to sleep on my lap.

That is so sweet. Her comb looks better.

First thing this morning Esther ate a couple pieces of grape and drank a little. I gave her half a calcium tablet.

Looking closer to normal...

When I took her outside, and opened the carrier door, she bolted out, then over to the waterer. She picked at the crumble mash I made with beef drippings, other hens wolfed it down.

But when I tossed a whole collard plant in the run, she was the first one over, and started stuffing the leaves down her beak.

She appears to be feeling better.
