One way to be "really, really sure" would be breeding a pure blue to a peach hen and then breeding the sons to a pure blue and see what color daughters they produce. IF they produce purple, cameo and peach that would be the final proof peach is the combination of both cameo and purple.. But is anybody going to breed a mere blue to a peach..? Not too many would! LOL

Kev. I may have what your talking about, By trying to add peach to silver pied.

Have a 2yr old silver peacock, from a silver pied(blue) X peach= so he is silver pied(blue) split peach X Silver Pied Hen(blue) Two of the peachick in the pics are from this mating. Have a few peachicks, as you know are all silver pied, Thats how I know the 2 peach silver pieds are hens. Have some Blue looking silver pieds unknown if split peach of course.(not sure I will keep these for 2 years) as I have 2 silver pieds males, that I am sure are silver pied split peach.

Only had him with one hen this year. So my number of chicks may not be large enought to tell this year. Will let everyone know if i get purple or cameo from this mating.

My other silver pied split peach, was with all peach hens. Reason I think the other peach silver pied chick is a male.

Sure others have bred Peach to blue to add the color to new patterns.

Kat, you have some nice Cameo silver pied. Hope you know I was not knocking your birds. The cameo I saw years ago, and just didnt care for the color.

Will be glad to post anything I find on the outcome, if I get other colors.

I do understand genetics, but not very good at posting the facts.
Kev. is very good at posting the knowledge.

I been breeding sexlink colors for many years, started with parakeets and cockatiels. Same place I learn mostly what i know about genetics.

Yes, that would work- it is the same concept, only with silver pied added on top of blue. For sure need more chicks before seeing the proper ratios in offspring. But as soon as there is one purple and one cameo chick this theory will be proven..

I would be REALLY interested in being updated on breeding results from your split males over hens not peach/purple/cameo.

As for crossing peach with other colors/patterns that is what I thought but strangely just have not come across chick results from those from anybody else so far.

Thats right on breeding charcoals.

No thats it,no other color. Cameo sometime carry a lethal gene. The bird starts turning all white.

Not to be mixed with the bronzes that turn white, as the bronze doesnt seem to be lethal gene.

Other trouble with the charcoal also, they dont seem to live as long, Were most peafowl live 20 +years.

There is a uses for charcoal hen, for people who want hens to keep their peacock at home and displaying. Dont have to worry about them free ranging and going broody, and get eaten by predators.
Not everyone is like me ,and have to raise chicks every year.

No thats it,no other color. Cameo sometime carry a lethal gene. The bird starts turning all white.

Not to be mixed with the bronzes that turn white, as the bronze doesnt seem to be lethal gene.

No sex has nothing to do with the color.


Charcoal x Blue split charcoal= both charcoal and blues in both sex.
Test have been done on the charcoal hen, they have everything they need to lay, but dont. No one knows why yet.

someone had a charcoal spalding hen lay. So maybe adding the green blood may help.
