I have just received a sack of organic oats and field peas mixed together. My goal is to feed only organic grain... The problem is that the Chickens eat the oats but leave the organic field peas behind. This is most disappointing... does anyone have a solution of how I can overcome this problem.
Try soaking and fermenting the field peas, or even sprouting them. We buy organic barley by the ton from a local grower. He also grows field peas and does not clean the combine in between. So there is always a small amount of peas in our barley. We soak all the grains that we feed to our chickens and pigs. This makes it easier to eat and digest, and the animal gets more nutritional value out of soaked grains. Our chickens seem to love the peas, and pick them out of the barley first. We soak for a minimum of 5 days and up to a few weeks before we make a new batch.

This is an old thread, BTW.
